‘Umbra’ to vie at German filmfest

Iranian short film ‘Umbra’ is set to take part at the 20minmax International Short Film Festival in Germany.

Directed by Saeed Jafarian, ‘Umbra’ will compete at the 13th edition of the German film event slated for late March.

‘Umbra’ is about a young woman who realizes a few minutes after midnight that she is with no one. Worried, she goes out in the darkness of the streets.

The film has previously taken part at the Cinéfondation section of the 71st Cannes Film Festival, the 2018 Vila do Conde film festival in Portugal, the 17th Silhouette Film Festival in France, the 42nd Toronto International Short Film Festival in Canada, the 2018 Batumi International Art House Film Festival in Georgia, the 37th Uppsala International Short Film Festival in Sweden, and the 14th MEDFILM Festival in Italy.

The Iranian short film has also gone on screen at the 27th St. Louis Film Festival, the 10th San Joaquin International Film Festival and the 2018 edition of the AFI FEST, which were held in the United States.

The 13th edition of 20minmax will take place on March 29-April 6 in the German city of Ingolstadt.

The festival screens films of multiple genres “-so long as they are no longer than 20 minutes-, b/w, the new monochrome competition, allows durations up to 30 minutes,” according to the website of the gala.
